36th OPERATIONS SUPPORT SQUADRON
Air and space advocates providing the warfighter with operational resources and flight mission materials needed to project airpower in the Pacific area of responsibility during peacetime, contingency, and war.
The 36th Operations Support Squadron controls, directs and manages the aerodrome at Andersen and develops, coordinates and publishes plans to support wartime and peacetime operations. The unit is physically spread out in three geographically separated locations and the flights have diverse responsibilities.
The air operations flight’s two sections are airfield management and air traffic control. Airfield management directs and coordinates all base operations and airfield activities to ensure effective support of the wing’s mission, to provide service to deployed and transient aircrews. It is responsible for international flight planning and all routine and emergency airfield operations. The air traffic control tower administers air traffic control services to the transient Air Mobility Command, Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Five and other aircraft that enter Andersen airport traffic area. The members of the tower work closely with the Federal Aviation Administration to provide the best service to aircraft in our region.
The 36th OSS Weather Flight provides weather and climatological support to the 36th Wing and all associate units on Andersen. In addition, it provides support to transient aircraft and other services and organizations such as the U.S. Navy. The types of services the weather flight provides its customers include terminal forecasts, weather observations, warnings, advisories and typhoon information.
The combat plans flight develops peacetime and wartime plans for Air Force units on Guam that follow guidance in U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. Air Force and Pacific Air Forces operations plans and directives. The flight also supports exercises and higher headquarters taskings that affect Andersen’s resources. Members of the combat plans flight provide operational and plans expertise to the 36th Wing commander’s battle staff and contingency support staff.
