Lineage. Constituted as 303 Troop Carrier Squadron on 25 May 1943.  Activated on 1 Sep 1943.   Inactivated on 30 Sep 1946.   Redesignated as 303 Troop Carrier Squadron, Medium on 10 May 1949.  Activated in the Reserve on 27 Jun 1949.  Ordered to Active Service on 10 Mar 1951.  Inactivated on 12 Mar 1951.  Activated in the Reserve on 15 Jun 1952.  Redesignated as 303 Troop Carrier Squadron, Heavy on 8 May 1961.  Ordered to Active Service on 1 Oct 1961.  Relieved from Active Duty on 27 Aug 1962.  Redesignated as: 303 Air Transport Squadron, Heavy on 1 Dec 1965; 303 Military Airlift Squadron on 1 Jan 1966; 303 Tactical Airlift Squadron on 27 Jun 1971; 303 Tactical Fighter Squadron on 1 Oct 1982; 303 Fighter Squadron on 1 Feb 1992.

Operations. Airborne assaults on Normandy, Southern France, Holland, and Germany during World War II.  Also transported cargo, passengers, and wounded in European Theater of Operations (ETO) and Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTO).  Trained for and performed airlift missions, 1949-1951 and 1952-1982.  Trained for A-10 fighter operations since 1982.  Between 1998-2003, resources deployed in support of US operations in Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan, but the unit itself remained at Whiteman AFB, MO.
