Lineage.  Constituted 26 Air Rescue Squadron on 17 Oct 1952.  Activated on 14 Nov 1952.  Inactivated on 8 Dec 1956.  Redesignated 26 Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, and converted to provisional status, on 12 Dec 2002.  Activated on 20 Mar 2003.  Inactivated on 10 Sep 2003. Activated in Feb 2009. Inactivated on 1 Jan 2014. Activated on 1 Sep 2015-.

Assignments.  1 Air Rescue Group (attached to Caribbean Air Command for operational control), 14 Nov 1952-8 Dec 1956.  Air Combat Command to activate or inactivate at any time after 12 Dec 2002.  438 Air Expeditionary Wing, 20 Mar-10 Sept 2003. 451 Expeditionary Operations Group, Feb 2009; 651 Air Expeditionary Group, 29 Jun 2011-31 Dec 2013. 1 Expeditionary Rescue Group, 1 Sep 2015-.

Operations.  Search and rescue and aeromedical evacuation operations primarily over land and water areas around Panama, but extending into Central America and northwestern areas of South America, 1952-1956. Provide personnel recovery capabilities with medical evacuation operations in Afghanistan’s Regional Command Southwest. Tasked to conduct fixed-wing personnel recovery missions in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
