HEADQUARTERS RESERVE NATIONAL SECURITY SPACE INSTITUTE

Vision Statement. A fully integrated partner assisting in educating the joint warfighter on space power application and in developing space professionals.

Mission Statement. Enhance Air Force Space Command’s (AFSPC’s) support to the warfighter through the research, development and world-class instruction of space system technologies, capabilities, operational concepts, acquisitions, and tactics in support of joint service strategies to develop certified space professionals across the DoD.

Organization. Parent Unit: 310th Space Wing

The Headquarters Reserve National Security Space Institute (RNSSI) is a fully integrated partner with the National Security Space Institute (NSSI) and the Advanced Space Operations School (ASOpS), participating in every aspect of the active duty mission, by training and certifying instructors, providing subject matter experts, assisting the development and instruction of all courses offered.

Unit History. On Jan. 7, 2006, Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) activated the HQ Reserve National Security Space Institute under the 310th Space Group to serve as the Reserve associate unit, a fully integrated partner, with the National Security Space Institute, providing instructors and instructional support personnel across the institute supporting AFSPC’s education mission.

In May 2008, AFSPC commander directed an NSSI mission split with the advanced space courses remaining under AFSPC and the space professional credentialing courses transitioning to Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The NSSI is responsible for offering the Space 200 and Space 300 Courses while the ASOpS is responsible for conducting the advanced space, warfighter preparation, and space fundamentals courses.

Located at Peterson AFB, the RNSSI supports the educational missions of both the NSSI and ASOpS and brings together a wealth of military and civilian expertise to educate and train our national security space community and international students in the areas of space professional education, warfighter training (space mission areas), advanced space training, and space familiarization as part of the Air Force and national space professional strategy.

Unit Achievements. 310th SW Squadron of the Year, 2009; Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, 2007.
