AIR COMMAND and STAFF COLLEGE SCHRIEVER SPACE SCHOLARS
Schriever Space Scholars at Air University’s Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB, AL, began in 2018 as a study concentration and the nation’s first space-centric military developmental education opportunity. The Schriever Space Scholars is now housed in its own department, the Department of Spacepower and is focused on developing the world’s premier space strategists and leaders. This includes not only U.S. military officers but international partners and government civilians fostering critical thinking about the space domain.

Lineage. Established as Air Command and Staff School, and organized, on 22 Dec 1948. Redesignated as: Air Command and Staff College on 1 Nov 1954; Command and Staff College on 1 Jul 1959; Air Command and Staff College on 1 Jul 1962.

Antecedent. On 12 Mar 1946, the function of this organization began with the establishment of the Air Command and Staff School as a named activity, not a unit. On 22 Dec 1948, this named activity was replaced by Headquarters, Air Command and Staff School, which was a permanent establishment.
