608th AIR OPERATIONS CENTER

Lineage. Constituted as 608 Air Operations Group and activated on 1 Jan 1994.  Redesignated as:  608 Air and Space Operations Center on 3 Jun 2008; 608 Air Operations Center on 24 Dec 2014.

Assignments. Eighth Air Force (later, Eighth Air Force [Air Forces Strategic]), 18 Jan 1994-.

Operational Component.  Squadron: 548 Combat Training, 1 Jul 1994-3 Feb 1998.

Stations.  Barksdale AFB, LA, 1 Jan 1994-.

Operations. Responsible for executing USSTRATCOM’s Air Tasking Cycle through all phases of conflict. It provides the Joint Force Air Component Commander (JFACC) assessments of operational-level plans for all bomber sorties departing the air defense identification zone. Additionally, as the COMAFSTRAT-Air / JFACC commander’s primary command and control node, the 608th AOC assures reliable, secure, global communications. It also provides situational awareness of all USSTRATCOM airborne/alert aircraft through all phases of conflict. Other responsibilities include building enduring processes with the geographic combatant commands, other functional AOCs and shaping total force.
