Redesignated 116th Fighter Group and allotted to the GA ANG on 24 May 1946. Extended federal recognition on 9 Sep 1946. Operations. WWII – Flew missions in support of the D-Day landings in Normandy and participated in the Ardennes, Northern France, Central Europe, and Rhineland Campaigns. Ordered to active duty on 10 Oct 1950 as part of the Korean War call-up. Moved to Japan in Jul 1951 and attached to Far East Air Forces for operations in the Korean War. Flew interdictory and close-support missions as well as provided air defense for the northern portion of Japan. Called to active duty as part of the Korean War call-up, 1950-1952. Flew combat support airlift missions worldwide, 1961-1974. Tactical fighter operations, 1974-1996.

Participated in deployments and exercises around the world in the B-1B, 1996-2002. Became the first “blended wing” USAF wing when combined with the 93rd Air Control Wing. Operates E-8C Joint STARS providing battlefield surveillance, 2002-. Now working directly with the 461st Air Control Wing which was activated on 7 Oct 2011 under Total Force Integration.
