Redesignated 142nd Fighter Squadron, and allotted to DE ANG, on 24 May 1946. 142nd Fighter Squadron (SE) extended federal recognition on 6 Sep 1946. Redesignated: 142nd Fighter-Interceptor Squadron on 17 May 1951; 142nd Fighter-Bomber  Squadron on 1 Dec 1952; 142nd Tactical Fighter Squadron on 10 Nov 1958; 142nd Air Transport Squadron (Heavy) on  7 Apr 1962. 166th Air Transport Group extended federal recognition and activated on 7 Apr 1962; 166th Military Airlift Group on 8 Jan 1966; 166th Tactical Airlift Group on 12 May 1971; 166th Airlift Group on 1 Jun 1992; 166th Airlift Wing on 10 Jan 1995-.

Participated in Operation Desert Storm, 1991.
