POLARIS HAMMER 2025
POLARIS HAMMER-KOREA is a space warfighter command-and-control (C2) exercise series led by U.S. Space Forces Korea (SPACEFOR-KOR) in coordination with the U.S. Space Force 392d Combat Training Squadron.
The mission is to train and assess space planning capabilities, command relationships, authorities, and coordination mechanisms to integrate space effects into Korean theater campaign objectives.
Key Milestones in 2025:
Phase I (21-24 Jan 2025): Held at Osan AB, ROK, Vandenberg SFB, CA and Peterson SFB, CO, marked the first time POLARIS HAMMER was executed as a full command post exercise on the peninsula.
Phase II (10-21 Mar 2025): Executed simultaneously with Exercise Freedom Shield 2025, which included standing up a forward-operating Combined Joint Space Operations Center (CJSpOC) and nearly doubling the number of Guardians on the peninsula.
Key Participants: U.S. Space Forces Korea, the U.S. 8th Army, the 5th Space Warning Squadron Det. 3, the Republic of Korea (ROK) Air Force Space Group, the ROK Second Operational Command, the USAFR 9th Combat Operations Squadron and 310th Space Wing, alongside international partner contributions from Australia, New Zealand, and Germany.
US SPACE FORCES-KOREA
U.S. Space Forces-Korea (SPACEFOR-KOR) was activated as a U.S. Space Force field component under U.S. Space Forces Indo-Pacific and assigned to the U.S. Forces Korea sub-unified command on 14 Dec 2022. SPACEFOR-KOR provides space planning and employment expertise, as well as space command and control to the USFK commander. The component’s cadre of space Guardians work with allies and partners to integrate space activities into shared operations, activities, and investments. The unit is headquartered at Osan AB, ROK, maximizing the synergy between the 7th Air Force headquarters and the 607th Air Operations Center. USSF service components integrate at the component level and provide combatant commanders a subordinate space commander, organic space planning and employment expertise, and space command and control that is focused on the joint force’s operational warfighting priorities and requirements.
