Established as Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED FOURTEEN (VB-114) on 26 Aug 1943. Redesignated Patrol Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED FOURTEEN (VPB-114) on 1 Oct 1944. Redesignated Patrol Squadron ONE HUNDRED FOURTEEN (VP-114) on 15 May 1946. Redesignated Heavy Patrol Squadron (Landplane) SIX (VP-HL-6) on 15 Nov 1946. Redesignated Patrol Squadron TWENTY SIX (VP-26) on 1 Sep 1948, the third squadron to be assigned the VP-26 designation.
VP-26 is assigned to Patrol Wing Eleven (CPRW-11) stationed at NAS Jacksonville, FL, operating Boeing P-8A Poseidon whose mission includes anti-submarine warfare (ASW); anti-morale warfare (AMW); anti-surface warfare (ASU); command and control warfare (C2W); command, control and communications (CCC); intelligence (INT); mine warfare (MIW).
