Changed status from a unit of United States Air Force armed force to a unit of United States Space Force armed force on 21 Oct 2020. Redesignated as 3 Test and Evaluation Squadron on 23 Aug 2021.

Operations. Conducts space-based demonstrations and experimentation through innovative and scientific methodologies, the detachment is accelerating the transition of research and development concepts into operational space capabilities. Oversees operations of the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle to demonstrate technologies for a reliable, reusable, unmanned space test platform for the U.S. Space Force.
