176th AIR DEFENSE SQUADRON

Lineage. Constituted as 744th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron on 1 Feb 1953. Redesignated as 744th Air Defense Squadron in 1 Oct 1992; 611th Air Control Squadron on 1 Jul 1994. Inactivated on 1 Oct 2004. Reactivated as 176th Air Control Squadron on 1 Oct 2004; Redesignated as 176th Air Defense Squadron in Aug 2013-.

Assignments. 532nd Aircraft Control and Warning Group, 1 Feb 1953; 531st Aircraft Control and Warning Group, 1 Oct 1977; 11th Tactical Control Group, 1 Jul 1981; 11th Tactical Control Wing, 1 Oct 1989; 11th Air Control Wing, 1 Oct 1992; 611th Air Operations Group, 1 Jul 1994; 176th Operations Group, 1 Oct 2004-.

Stations. Murphy Dome AFS, AK, 1 Feb 1953; Elmendorf AFB, AK, Sep 1983-.

Operations. Support, administer and train assigned personnel to perform air defense missions, support tactical missions as directed by HQ AAC. Selected to man the NORAD Region Operations Control Center (ROCC) later: Region Air Operations Center, (RAOC), responsible for managing all air defense operations in Alaska, making all manned remote radar sites redundant.
