Selected for the unique role of aerial fire fighting, two C-130s were equipped with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS), began water/fire retardant bombing of fires throughout the United States, 1975-present. Participated in OPERATIONs: JUST CAUSE, Panama, 1989-1990; DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM, Saudi Arabia, 1990-1991; PROVIDE COMFORT, Iraq, 1991-1993; PROVIDE HOPE, Egypt/Somalia, 1993-1994; PROVIDE PROMISE, Bosnia/Serbia, 1993-1994; UPHOLD DEMOCRACY, Haiti, 1995, SOUTHERN WATCH, Iraq, in 1996, 1998; TEMPEST RAPID, Indonesia, 1997; JOINT ENDEAVOR, Bosnia, 1996; SHINING HOPE, Bosnia, 1999; JOINT FORGE, Bosnia/Kosovo, 1999; CORONET OAK, Panama, 2000; ENDURING FREEDOM, Oman, 2001; IRAQI FREEDOM, 2004-2005.
