Lineage. Designated 130 Air Commando Group and allotted to West Virginia ANG in 1960. Extended federal recognition on 1 Jul 1960; 130 Special Operations Group on 1 Jul 1968; 130 Tactical Airlift Group on 1 Jul 1975; 130 Airlift Group on 16 Mar 1992. Redesignated: 130 Airlift Wing on 1 Oct 1995-.

Operations. Primarily Air Commando special operations missions. The transition to the C-130 with the primary mission of the Group became tactical airlift, with the Special Operations mission becoming secondary with the end of the Vietnam War. Deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm from Oct 1990-Jun 1991 with members from the 130 TAS combining with the 181 TAS, TX ANG to form the functional staff of the 1630 TAS (Provisional) at Al Ain International Airport, UAE. Deployed in support of Operation Provide Promise several times from Apr 1992-Oct 1998. In Aug 1993, supported Operation Support Hope for 30 days in Rwanda, Africa. Also flew in support of Operation Southern Watch, Jan-Mar 1996 & Apr-Jun 1998; Coronet Oak, 2000.
