Trained for tactical bombing missions and air-to-air combat in the B-26, 1946-1951. Called to active federal service on 1 Mar 1951 for duty in the Korean War, became Tactical Air Command training squadron for pilots flying the B-45A Tornado jet bomber, 1951-1952. Flew air defense mission for the Los Angeles area, 1952-1961. Federalized for Berlin Crisis, 1 Oct 1961-31 Aug 1962, augmented MATS airlift capability worldwide in support of the USAF needs. Throughout the 1960s, flew long-distance transport missions, frequently to Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, and during the Vietnam War, to both South Vietnam, Okinawa and Thailand. Transferred to TAC and flew theater transport, flying missions in support of TAC throughout the USA and Alaska.
