Lineage. Constituted as USAF Fighter Weapons School, and activated, on 30 Dec 1965. Organized on 1 Jan 1966. Discontinued, and inactivated, on 1 Sep 1966. Activated on 30 Dec 1981. Redesignated USAF Weapons School on 15 Jun 1993.

Assignments. Tactical Air Command, 30 Dec 1965; 4520 Combat Crew Training Wing, 1 Jan-1 Sep 1966. 57 Fighter Weapons (later, 57 Fighter; 57) Wing, 30 Dec 1981-.

Aircraft. Documentation is not clear as to the type aircraft, if any, assigned to the school in 1966. A-10, 1981-; F-4, 1981-1985; F-15, 1981-; F-16, 1981-; F-111, 1981-1995.

Operations. Documentation is not clear as to what the USAF Weapons School did during 1966. The school probably conducted training courses in available aircraft of the center. Beginning with activation in Dec 1981, the school conducted formal graduate level instructor courses for pilots and weapons systems officers.

Redesignated: 328 Bombardment Squadron, Heavy on 20 Aug 1943; 328 Bombardment Squadron, Very Heavy on 23 May 1945; 328 Bombardment Squadron, Medium on 28 May 1948; 328 Bombardment Squadron, Heavy on 1 Feb 1955; 328 Bomb Squadron on 1 Sep 1991. Inactivated on 15 Jun 1994. Redesignated 328 Weapons Squadron on 24 Jan 2003. Activated on 3 Feb 2003.

Deployed personnel and equipment to Diego Garcia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and England, 1990-1991; combat in Southwest Asia, Jan-Feb 1991. The 328th is the largest and most dynamic squadron within the USAF Weapons School as it manages three separate syllabi: the Space Superiority Weapons Instructor Course (WIC), the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) WIC and the Cyber Network Operations WIC.
