605th TEST AND EVALUATION SQUADRON

The 605th Test and Evaluation Squadron at Hurlburt Field, FL, is a part of the 505th Operations Group at Nellis Air Force Base, NV, 505th Command and Control Wing at Hurlburt Field, FL. The squadron began as the 605th Test Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base in 1993 and moved to Hurlburt Field in 1997 where it was renamed and structured under the 505th CCW in 2004.

The 605 TES is the Command and Control and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C2ISR) test manager for the 505th CCW. The 605th TES is responsible for conducting operational testing and tactics development and evaluation C2ISR collection, processing and exploitation systems as well as managing and providing resources to support operational testing, development testing, and various MAJCOM and joint special projects. The unit also supports C2 weapons system development and modernization.

The mission of the 605th TES is to Conduct C2ISR operational test of AWACS, Joint STARS, AOC, TACP, CRC and ISR Weapons Systems, develop and evaluate tactics that optimize the combat capability of these weapon systems, and familiarize operational units with test results.

 

Implied Tasks. Evaluates operational effectiveness, suitability, interoperability, information assurance, and TTP of C2ISR systems

  • Responsible for the planning, execution, and reporting of operational test and evaluation of C2ISR systems supporting Air Force and Joint C2ISR programs
  • Supports development of C2ISR weapons system test events
  • Ensures that operational test plans and reports meet DoD, Air Force, and Air Combat Command test and evaluation guidance
  • Provides test engineering expertise during test project planning, execution, and reporting as an integral part of C2ISR test teams

Detachment-1 (Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA)

Provides operational testing for the AWACS E-3 aircraft. Test programs include radar subsystem, electronic support measures subsystem, IFF, navigation and computers (data processing). Consoles display computer-processed data in graphic and tabular format on video screens, communications: UHF/VHF/HF/SATCOM radios, Link-16, Link-11, console operators perform surveillance, identification, weapons control, battle management and communications functions.
