Operations. Established to train cadres for new groups and squadrons during 1943. Trained in tactical reconnaissance, Mar 1954-Feb 1958. Operating from bases in Louisiana and Texas, participated in Operation SAGEBRUSH, Oct-Dec 1955. As a tactical reconnaissance wing, operated USAF Advanced Flying School, Tactical Reconnaissance, 8 Apr-17 May 1959. During the Vietnam War, conducted reconnaissance missions, combat air patrol and ground strike operations, 1966-1973. Played a major role in locating and recovering the American commercial freighter, S. S. Mayaguez, from the Cambodians, 1975. Assisted in evacuation of American and Allied personnel from Cambodia and South Vietnam, Apr 1975. Conducted testing of AQM-34 V model drone, 1976-1979. As host unit for Misawa AB, Japan, planned, prepared and executed the deployment of two squadrons of F-16 fighter aircraft, 1984-1994.
