30th STUDENT SQUADRON

The 30th Student Squadron has a proud history at Squadron Officer School. It was one of the original units dating back to the 1950s. From 1950 to 1960 it was designated “Group A” and after Class 60C it became “A Wing” until it was re-designated the 30th Student Squadron in Class 86E. When the school adopted unit mascots in 1969, Group A became the “White Knights.” It is one of the three units that still has its original unit mascot.

The squadron colors are white and red. The squadron motto is “Knights…dedicated to integrity, excellence, and service before self.” The knight warrior traits are: expertise, service, and chivalry. The Knights have the distinction of educating the most SOS students—educating over 18,800 USAF, international officers and DoD civilians since 1955.

SQUADRON OFFICER SCHOOL

This eight-week course for captains with four to seven years of experience, international Allied partners and DoD civilian equivalents graduates more than 3,000 officers annually with 11,000 enrolled in distance learning. It emphasizes leadership and air, space, and cyberspace power. While at SOS, officers step out of their specialties and broaden their focus on essential leadership competencies, as well as officership, leadership, problem solving, core values, and the Air Force as an institution in the profession of arms. SOS not only provides students with an opportunity to see how their leadership skills influence team success, but also to experience followership in support of other student leaders as well as their international partners.
