Redesignated 182nd Fighter Squadron, and allotted to Texas ANG, on 21 Aug 1946. 182nd Fighter Squadron (SE) extended federal recognition on 6 Oct 1947. Redesignated: 182nd Fighter-Bomber Squadron on 10 Jul 1952; 182nd Fighter-Interceptor Squadron on 1 Jan 1957; 182nd Tactical Fighter Squadron on 14 Sep 1969; 182nd Fighter Squadron on 15 Mar 1992-.

Operations. Combat in ETO, 14 Mar 1944-9 May 1945. Air defense of Texas. Called to active duty as part of the Korean War call-up, 10 Oct 1950-1 Dec 1952. Became part of Air Defense Command  and resumed its postwar mission of Texas air defense. Selected by the ADC to man a runway alert program on full 24-hour basis in 1957 to guard the Texas Gulf coast. Began Tactical fighter operations for ground support in 1971. Deployed in support of Operation Southern Watch, 1997. Became a Formal Training Unit (FTU) under AETC. providing combat training for active duty, ANG, and Reserve F-16 pilots, including recent graduates from USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training making them combat ready. Flew Operation Noble Eagle air defense missions, 2001-2002.
