14th AIR SUPPORT OPERATIONS SQUADRON (ACC)

Lineage. Constituted as 14 Air Support Communications Squadron on 4 Feb 1943. Activated on 15 Feb 1943. Redesignated as 14 Tactical Air Communications Squadron on 29 Feb 1944. Disbanded on 20 Apr 1944. Reconstituted, and redesignated as 14 Air Support Operations Squadron, on 24 Jun 1994. Activated on 1 Jul 1994.

Assignments. III Air Support Command, 15 Feb 1943; I Air Support Command (later, I Tactical Air Division; III Tactical Air Division), 3 Mar 1943; II Tactical Air Division, 18-20 Apr 1944. 18 Air Support Operations Group, 1 Jul 1994-.

Stations. Morris Field, NC, 15 Feb 1943; Lebanon, TN, 19 Nov 1943-20 Apr 1944. Pope AFB (later, Pope Field, Fort Bragg), NC, 1 Jul 1994-.

Operations. WW-II. Provided air support parties to the 80th and 98th Infantry Divisions and at least one airborne regiment by providing liaison, operate and maintain communications nets to request air support, and control that air support once it arrived over the battlefield. Provide air and space power expertise and integration to the 82nd Airborne Division including night and day parachute/helicopter assaults with division, brigade, and battalion commanders providing air operations against hostile targets in close proximity to friendly forces.
